Imagine
a language whose words are being forgotten and whose native speakers
are declining by the day. Unfortunately, that is the reality for Western
Armenian.
UNESCO has classified our language as "definitely
endangered" in its Atlas of the World's Endangered Languages. This means
that, without intervention, our language is at risk of disappearing,
possibly within the next century.
Tomorrow, on National
Handwriting Day, we invite you to take a moment to write something in
Western Armenian, whether it’s a letter, a poem, or even a single word.
Write it by hand, feel the weight of each letter, and reflect on the
importance of keeping your language alive. Thus, each handwritten piece
becomes a bridge to preserving our heritage.
Revitalizing a
language is a collective journey. So, once you've written your piece,
make sure to snap a picture and share it on social media using the
hashtag #հայերէնովգրենք, and tag Hnarti, to help spread the word.
Together, we can achieve the impossible!
