“Music is that magical force among the arts that can directly and completely dominate a person's entire existence, their body and soul, and lead them wherever they wish.” ~ Hovhannes Toumanian
Music unites us. It’s a universal
language that transcends barriers and brings us together. But music does more
than connect us with each other—it also connects us through time. Every nation
has its own music that unravels a unique story and transports us to different
eras.
In celebration of World Music Day, we
would like to shed light on Myrath, a Tunisian rock band that bridges the past
with the present. They’re noted for skillfully incorporating their rich North
African heritage into their music, creating a unique musical experience that
honors their cultural roots while appealing to contemporary audiences.
In Arabic, the word “Myrath” means
“legacy”, a concept reflected in the band’s sound. The members make use of
traditional Middle Eastern instruments like the oud, qanun, and darbuka
alongside the typical electric guitars, bass and drums found in rock music.
Myrath's lyrical content further blends the old and new by drawing on themes
from their cultural heritage, folklore, and personal experiences, and presenting
them in new and innovative ways.
One of their most popular songs
“Believer”, is imbued with the band’s recurring principles of hope, resilience,
and self-discovery. However, what makes this song notable, is not only its
amazing musical prowess and inspiring lyrics, but also its visual storytelling,
which enhances the deep and intense emotions conveyed in the songs. “Believer”,
along with the songs “Dance” and “No Holding Back”, are part of a continuous music video trilogy,
set in a type of «1001 Nights»- inspired
fairytale landscape. The storyline follows the journey of the protagonist who
is transported into a mystical world. Throughout the videos, he faces various
challenges and obstacles, that test his resolve and courage, eventually overcoming
them and discovering his inner power.
Furthermore, the band ensures the magical
atmosphere of their music videos transfers to their stage performances,
featuring traditional Tunisian attire, pyro shows, magic tricks, and much more,
emphasizing their dedication to creating art that resonates on multiple levels.
In the spirit of World Music Day, that is
all about exchanging cultural and artistic experiences through music, we wanted
to further widen the reach of Myrath’s powerful message, by translating the
lyrics of their song “Believer” into Western Armenian.

Myrath embodies the essence of the
“Hnaramid” spirit, by continuously blending traditions with modernity and
embracing experimentation with new cultures, as seen in their latest album
“Karma”, which draws inspiration from Amazigh rhythms. This enduring legacy of
cultural and musical innovation symbolizes Myrath's role as torchbearers,
passing on the light of unity and hope through their music to future
generations.
